Monday Meetings

CIRA Group Meeting

Every Monday, the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy hosts a group meeting for staff and students. This will take place at 11 am in the board / seminar room of building 610 in Technology Park. The agenda will vary from week to week, including news and events, progress reports from project leaders, student and staff research reviews, etc. A roster of events can be found here.

Journal Club

Journal Club is a chance for staff and students to share news of interesting research with a broad, inquisitive audience. It is open to anyone with a physics / astronomy / engineering background and any published document is fair game. This includes journal articles, conference papers, letters, pre-prints and so on. Experienced staff and students can mix on an equal footing and discussion is encouraged at all times. There are no silly questions!

The general idea is that the speaker nominates a paper about a week in advance, and everyone has a read of the paper before journal club meets. Rather than giving a formal talk, the speaker can chair a discussion on the paper, usually after presenting an overview of the document on a few slides.

In 2010, Journal Club will be held Monday at 12 pm in the seminar room of building 610 in Technology Park. Bring a coffee and kick your week off to a good start by catching up with your colleagues!

On this page you will find a roster of speakers, and some instructions to speakers - please read them before you are due to present at journal club!

All members of CIRA, DIAP, ECE, etc. are welcome to participate. If you'd like to have your name added to the roster, please email Aidan Hotan. The roster of talks is mirrored within the Google calendar ICRAR, which you can also subscribe to (provided you use gmail) by sending your gmail address to Aidan.
