I have had some success in accessing the staff-curtin wireless network from a Ubuntu machine. I am told this is fairly straight forward for Windows machines (see here for instructions), but not so easy for Linux (Ubuntu in particular). I thought I should should share what I did to get it working.

The first thing to do is check that your wireless hardware has detected the staff-curtin wifi signal as follows: left-click on the network manager icon on your gnome panel and you should see a drop-down menu with a list of available wired and wireless networks. See the figure below for example.

If staff-curtin is not listed, then you are probably not within range of a staff-curtin wireless access point. Otherwise, left-click on the staff-curtin network to open the network manager tool. See the figure below.

Click on the Wireless Security tab and use the settings shown in the figure (the defaults in the other tabs should be fine). Enter your own Curtin staff ID and OASIS password in the Username and Password fields. For the CA certificate field you will need to download a copy of the certificate from here and save it somewhere on your machine. Then you can update the CA certificate field to point to your local copy of this file.

That's pretty much all I had to do. Email me (Nathan Clarke) if you have any questions or comments.

Cheers, Nathan
